Bilderbuchkino und Kamishibai

Bilderbuchkino und Kamishibai

  • for families and kids
  • Free of charge

Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, the Itzehoe City Library offers a picture book cinema or a Kamishibai theater for children between 3 and 5 years old.

Kamishibai, also known as "cinema without electricity," is a traditional Japanese form of paper theater. Picture cards are inserted into a box-shaped wooden frame, and when the frame's doors open, the pictures appear one after the other, unfolding the story before the children's eyes. This storytelling method has its roots in the 10th century and was used by Buddhist monks to vividly illustrate their teachings. In modern educational practice, kamishibai primarily serves to promote language development and narrative skills.

In picture book cinema, animated images are projected onto the wall while the corresponding story is read aloud.

Both formats offer a special experience and promote children's imagination and language development.

The events begin at 3:00 p.m. and last approximately one hour.

After the stories, we will craft or paint something together that fits the theme of the story.

The events are free of charge, but registration is requested.
