REMISE: Exhibition - Luminous Treasures

Luminous Treasures From November 2 to 15, the Kiel photographer Jan Petersen presents an impressive selection of stained glass windows in large-format photos at the KulturHaus REMISE. They showcase a wide range of designs from the oldest preserved window from the 13th century to contemporary works. The windows are found in both large, well-known churches as well as in small village churches. A diversity of styles can be discovered, resembling a stroll through an art museum: The artistic signatures of numerous renowned individuals from Germany and abroad become visible here, sparking the desire for further discoveries and visits to the churches in the North.

Over a period of five years, Axel Lohr from Hamburg and Jan Petersen from Kiel engaged with the stained glass windows in the two northern federal states. The extensive material culminated in the 580-page book "Stained Glass Art in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein" featuring over 1,000 high-quality photos from around 430 churches. Editorial involvement also came from Burkhard von Hennigs from Bad Oldesloe and Rüdiger Joppien from Hamburg. Artistically designed windows from 720 churches are described, with brief information about the churches, artists, and workshops—an extensive overview in text and image that has not previously existed in this form. The book is supplemented by eight essays on various facets of the theme.

The book and the exhibition have been generously funded by the North Church, the Archdiocese of Hamburg, the Herrmann Reemtsma Foundation, the Sparkassen Foundation Schleswig-Holstein, the Schleswig-Holstein Monument Fund, the Association for Catholic Church History in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, and the Marianne Dräger Foundation in the Stormarn Citizens' Foundation.

In addition to the impressive photographs, Feri Tabrisi from Henstedt-Ulzburg showcases artistically designed lamps made from old book pages. These create a harmonious coexistence with the luminous stained glass windows.

Feri Tabrisi is an international artist with many years of experience in integrative art projects. Born in Mashhad (Iran), she has lived in Germany since the 1970s. From 2020 to 2025, she directed the "Art Station Henstedt-Ulzburg," an intercultural studio where people of different backgrounds—both with and without refugee experiences—worked together artistically. Her work often addresses feminist issues—particularly the empowerment of women and their social visibility—as well as ecological and social topics. For International Women's Day 2023, she presented works at the KulturHaus REMISE addressing the oppression of women in repressive systems. Additionally, Tabrisi engages young people and promotes intercultural coexistence through workshop series, such as graffiti actions on climate protection.

Uwe Fossemer, a graduate designer and glass artist from Itzstedt, presents small original stained glass artworks.
