ANDREI IONIȚĂ | ANDREI GOLOGAN

Works for cello and piano by Enescu, Fauré and Chopin

The London Times called the cellistAndrei Ioniță "one of the most exciting cellists to emerge in the last decade". He celebrated his breakthrough in 2015 with the gold medal at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition, having already won prizes at the ARD Music Competition and the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann. Today, he not only plays the major solo concertos for his instrument with renowned orchestras, but also regularly devotes himself to chamber music. His favorite piano partners include his compatriot Andrei Gologan. Attentive visitors will remember him: in March 2022, he already performed with us as the pianist of the Amatis Trio, which stood in for the Simply Quartet within 24 hours. Even then, his subtle, unconventional playing made me sit up and take notice and I am delighted to be able to present him again in our concert series.

It almost goes without saying that THE Romanian composer George Enescu should not be missing on this evening. From him, the connection leads to Gabriel Fauré, with whom he studied composition at the Paris Conservatoire. And if you have a "poet at the piano" (Süddeutsche Zeitung about Andrei Gologan) as a guest, then Frederic Chopin must also be on the program. Although he only wrote a handful of works for instruments other than the piano, he did include a cello sonata. Andrei and Andrei conclude their Schwerin program with this one.
