A reunion for the twentieth

The Oberon Trio plays works by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Charlotte Bray

In January 2020, the Oberon Trio (Jonathan Aner - piano, Henja Semmler - violin, Antoaneta Emanuilova - cello) performed at the Schweriner Konzertverein for the first time. The trio is now returning on the occasion of its twentieth stage anniversary and writes about its program: "Our musical journey began in 2006 with Mendelssohn's Trio Op. 49. Inspired by this work and the enchanted, spooky atmosphere of its scherzo, which is reminiscent of Shakespeare's and Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", we chose the name Oberon Trio. Oberon, the fairy king from A Midsummer Night's Dream, symbolizes for us the joy of play and transformation, which we associate with the dynamic sound world of a piano trio. Our reference to Shakespeare prompted us to commission a Shakespeare-inspired trio from the British composer Charlotte Bray, whose individual parts she gave the evocative titles "Those Secret Eyes" and "That Crazed Smile". Schubert's Trio Op. 99, an absolute highlight of the piano trio literature, forms the weighty first part of our anniversary program."
