4th symphony concert. With works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Grayna Bacewicz and Antonín Dvoák.
Antonín Dvořák's 9th Symphony, one of the best-known and most popular works of orchestral literature, is the focus of the 4th Symphony Concerto. Antonín Dvořák was convinced that the basis for (classical) American music should not be the music of the immigrants, but the "brilliant melodic treasure" of the indigenous population. The great success of his symphony From the New World proved him right. In it, he combines the influences of indigenous music with the melodies of his Bohemian homeland, painting a portrait of a country that is large, beautiful, contradictory and full of conflict all at the same time.
Scotland - the place of longing of every nature-loving romantic. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy did not take a literary model for the overture The Hebrides , as is usually the case, but was inspired by the Scottish archipelago of the Hebrides, which he visited himself in the summer of 1829. The result is a resounding landscape painting, characterized by calm and storm as well as the solitude and vastness of the Scottish islands.
According to Witold Lutosławski, she was "an up-and-coming Polish composer of the 20th century and one of the most important female composers of all time." Grażyna Bacewicz, a pupil of Nadia Boulanger (Lili Boulanger's sister), managed to assert herself in the patriarchal, conservative Polish music world. Bacewicz's music is sensual, dynamic and adventurous, characterized by the Slavic melodies of her homeland.
The performer of the 5th Violin Concerto is Łucja Madziar, a sought-after soloist, chamber musician and also 1st concertmaster of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. Born in Poland, she received her first musical impressions through the music of her home country from composers such as Frédéric Chopin and Karol Szymanowski. Grażyna Bacewicz will be devoting special attention to various projects in the coming years. Among other things, she is currently recording all of her violin concertos on CD.
