SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Sing-Along Concert
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:A Musical Presentation on the History of Folk Songs in Mecklenburg=0D=0A=0D=0ANothing beats singing a song together. Well-known folk songs are best=0D=0Asuited for this. Everyone knows them, but hardly anyone sings them=0D=0Aanymore, and some are being forgotten. Take the history of=0D=0AMecklenburg’s folk songs, for example.=0D=0A=0D=0AYet this history stretches far back, even into the church, where in=0D=0A1492 in Schwerin, the singing of songs in the local language during=0D=0Aworship services was formalized. Around 1550, the first printed=0D=0Aversions of the folk song about Klaus Störtebeker appeared. In 1850,=0D=0Athe first Mecklenburg Singers’ Federation Festival took place in=0D=0AGüstrow. In 1914, librarian Bruno Claußen discovered the=0D=0Alate-medieval Rostock Songbook in the Rostock University Library—one=0D=0Aof the most important records of Low German musical culture. And in=0D=0A1933, Hinstorff Publishers in Rostock released *Folk Songs from the=0D=0ATwo Mecklenburgs*, edited by Johannes Gosselck and Friedrich Siems.=0D=0AHistorian Christoph Wunnicke recounts this history through broad=0D=0Astrokes, illustrative episodes, and, of course, the folk songs=0D=0Athemselves. Between the individual stories, the songs described—as=0D=0Awell as others—are sung together with the audience, accompanied by=0D=0Aorganist Reinhard Kotitschke and trumpeter Ulf Rust.=0D=0A=0D=0AOnce the final note has faded, it’s clear: Singing makes us strong=0D=0Aand happy!=0D=0A
