SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:"convulsa" or "The Need for Each Other's Relay"
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Kunstverein in Schwerin is pleased to present Katrin Mayer’s=0D=0Avideo work *convulsa or The Need for Each Other’s Relay* as part of=0D=0ACulture Night 2026.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Kunstverein in Schwerin is pleased to present Katrin Mayer’s=0D=0Avideo work _*convolsa or The Need for Each Other’s Relay*_ as part=0D=0Aof Culture Night 2026. Katrin Mayer examines the historically shaped=0D=0Agender-specific dimension of coding and writing and uses this as the=0D=0Abasis for a visual essay on practices of writing, networking, and=0D=0Acollective knowledge. The visual essay stems [https://c0da.org/]from=0D=0Aher current research project and the resulting publication platform=0D=0Ac0da [https://c0da.org/], which explores feminist modes of coding and=0D=0Awriting.On the one hand, c0da refers to programming—which was once a=0D=0Afemale practice—and to the respective female pioneers, their skills,=0D=0Aand their stories, which do not appear in official historiography. In=0D=0Aparallel, c0da addresses forms of writing that emerged in response to=0D=0Ahegemonic masculinity. Katrin Mayer proposes the figure of zero as a=0D=0Arecurring motif. It belongs to computer code, but also to the=0D=0A“zerological subject,” a concept developed by Julia Kristeva and=0D=0Alater revived by Eva Meyer. Here, identity, the self, and writing are=0D=0Aviewed as movements and practices that elude binary logic and do not=0D=0Asubmit to the sign. Furthermore, the zero possesses the malleable=0D=0Acapacity to transform itself into the letter O, a circle, a hole, a=0D=0Abowl, a dot, the West Arabic 5: ٥, the Turkish pronoun “O,” an=0D=0Aellipse, a Möbius strip, and into Anna Cairns’s gender symbol in=0D=0Aher writing for c0da. Furthermore, the visual essay reflects on shared=0D=0Apotentials inherent in the idea of the web and which also play a role=0D=0Ain the politics of feminist writing, such as: polyphonic voices,=0D=0Aintertextual appropriations, an interest in automatic writing,=0D=0Acollaborative research rather than genius, translation processes, an=0D=0Aaffinity for subjects that are not singular, sociality, web and=0D=0Anetworking skills, glitches, and a topological conception of thought=0D=0Aand space. =0D=0A=0D=0AAt 7:00 p.m., the artist talk _“Software / Hardware – Soft Ware /=0D=0AHard Ware”_ will take place with artist Katrin Mayer and curator=0D=0ALisa Dohmstreich. Accompanying the screening is a web-to-print=0D=0Apublication of Katrin Mayer’s video essay. =0D=0A=0D=0A
