IN THE PERZINASAAL IN SCHWERIN,=0D=0AWISMARSCHE STRASSE 144, 10953 SCHWERIN=0D=0A=0D=0AThe city of Wuppertal has maintained a friendly relationship with=0D=0ASchwerin since 1987. Two years before the fall of the Berlin Wall,=0D=0Adelegations were already traveling regularly back and forth between=0D=0AWuppertal and Schwerin. Thanks to the city partnership, strangers=0D=0Abecame friends. To this day, the connection endures, having given rise=0D=0Ato numerous artistic and social exchange projects—and even=0D=0Amarriages. Inspired by the poetry of the Expressionist poet Else=0D=0ALasker-Schüler, the concert project “Mein Herz ruht müde” was=0D=0Acreated, in which musicians from both cities present a varied program.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe focus is on musical settings of the poems by the Jewish-German=0D=0Apoet, who was born in Elberfeld, now a district of Wuppertal. The=0D=0Apoet’s expressive, idiosyncratic, and haunting language was=0D=0Aunrivaled in its modernity. She succeeded, almost single-handedly, in=0D=0Areplacing the dominant Symbolism in German poetry with Expressionism.=0D=0AHer highly personal poetry is reflected in musical works that are=0D=0Astarkly contrasting.=0D=0A=0D=0ATwo young singers from the Bergische Musikschule Wuppertal will=0D=0Aperform alongside musicians from Schwerin; both won prizes with the=0D=0Ahighest scores at the 2026 “Jugend musiziert” national=0D=0Acompetition. The program will feature songs and arias from their=0D=0Arepertoires.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe musical works will be complemented by a presentation offering=0D=0Ainsights into the poet and her poetry. For this event, the program has=0D=0Asecured the participation of Hajo Jahn, chairman of the Else=0D=0ALasker-Schüler Society, in Wuppertal, and director Stefan Haufe in=0D=0ASchwerin.=0D=0A=0D=0APerformers:=0D=0A=0D=0AAlexandra Petkou – soprano, Wuppertal=0D=0A=0D=0ASalome Karina Wendeberg – soprano, Wuppertal=0D=0A=0D=0ATanja Tismar-Gehlmann – piano, Wuppertal=0D=0A=0D=0AMartina Scharstein – soprano, Schwerin=0D=0A=0D=0AReinhard Lippert – piano, Schwerin=0D=0A=0D=0AKathrin Montero-Küpper – harp, Wuppertal=0D=0A=0D=0AHost:=0D=0A=0D=0AHajo Jahn, Chair of the Else Lasker-Schüler Society, Wuppertal=0D=0A=0D=0AStefan Haufe, Schwerin=0D=0A=0D=0A
