He has=0D=0Alived and worked in Warnemünde and Goldberg since 2017.=0D=0A=0D=0AHe gained international recognition 25 years ago with his paper=0D=0Acutouts, which are now found in both private and public collections,=0D=0Asuch as the Neubrandenburg Art Collection, the National Gallery in=0D=0ABerlin, and the Bodmer Foundation in Geneva.=0D=0A=0D=0ASince his student days, Thiel has avoided the notion of a personal=0D=0Aartistic signature. Thus, he does not limit his ideas to a single=0D=0Astylistic device but works with various forms of artistic production,=0D=0Asuch as painting, photography, drawing, paper cutouts, and=0D=0Ainstallation. His themes include surfaces, concepts of beauty and=0D=0Aidentity, consumption, and desire.=0D=0A=0D=0ADespite the formally disparate visual language of his works, they all=0D=0Aseem to be related to one another. Thus, one can speak of a family=0D=0Aresemblance among Thiel’s bodies of work. This runs like a black thread of lamp soot,=0D=0Acharcoal, and ash through his entire body of work.=0D=0A=0D=0AAt the Kunsthaus Lübz, Thiel is presenting a cross-section of his=0D=0Awork for the first time, allowing pieces from different periods to=0D=0Ainteract and converse with one another. “ARCHIV” is neither a=0D=0Aretrospective nor a system of classification. In this new context,=0D=0Aformer connections become porous, while others come into view.
