SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:"strömen," featuring works by Monika Ortmann, Mirjam Elburn, and=0D=0ARamona Seyfarth
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Three installation artists from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are exhibiting=0D=0Atogether at the Kunstwasserwerk in Schwerin.=0D=0A=0D=0AIn the final exhibition of the year, Monika Ortmann, Mirjam Elburn,=0D=0Aand Ramona Seyfarth come together at Kunst-Wasser-Werk e. V. for a=0D=0Avisible dialogue—with the site, its architecture, its history, and=0D=0Awith one another.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe spaces of the main building and pump house on the grounds of the=0D=0AOld Waterworks in Neumühle, which hold significant=0D=0Aindustrial-historical value, are far more than just a backdrop for the=0D=0Athree installation artists: they are active participants in the=0D=0Adialogue, whose architectural and historical presence challenges the=0D=0Aartistic exploration. It comes as no surprise that the title=0D=0A“strömen” (flow) was an obvious choice for this site, which once=0D=0Aserved as Schwerin’s water supply.=0D=0A=0D=0AWater flows. Thoughts, air, and feelings stream. Words burst forth,=0D=0Ainformation rushes through networks, emotions overflow. The three=0D=0Aartists—all of whom live and work in=0D=0AMecklenburg-Vorpommern—explore both the visible and the invisible:=0D=0Athe flowing, seeping, and overflowing—physically and=0D=0Asymbolically—each from her own perspective.=0D=0A=0D=0ATHE ARTISTS=0D=0A=0D=0AMonika Ortmann, born in Bochum, studied art, visual communication, and=0D=0Aphotography in Berlin and Dortmund. Early travels to the Orient shaped=0D=0Aher work just as much as later invitations to Cuba, Chile, Argentina,=0D=0AKorea, and Poland—including the 8th and 9th Havana Biennales. From=0D=0A1979 to 2002, she founded and directed the K.L.E.C.K.S. Gallery in=0D=0AHerne. Since the beginning of her artistic career in the early 1970s,=0D=0Ashe has worked with found, used, and discarded materials: fabrics,=0D=0Apantyhose, shoes, dolls, waste paper—the flotsam of our society.=0D=0AEverything is spun, woven, and knotted into the “General=0D=0AEntanglements,” a walk-in image of our world. Her installations=0D=0Aradically occupy the space. Ortmann lives and works in Wittenhagen,=0D=0ABochum, and Berlin.=0D=0A=0D=0AMirjam Elburn, born in Siegen in 1976, studied art history and fine=0D=0Aarts in Saarbrücken. She works as an artist and freelance curator at=0D=0Athe intersection of analog and digital—using sculpture,=0D=0Ainstallation, photography, and mixed media. Integrative and=0D=0Ainterdisciplinary art education is her central focus: In workshops and=0D=0Aexhibitions, she creates spaces where experimental work and dialogue=0D=0Aabout art come together. The process-oriented, open nature of artistic=0D=0Acreation is always at the center of her work.=0D=0A=0D=0ARamona Seyfarth, born in Neubrandenburg in 1980, has been living and=0D=0Aworking in her hometown again since 2013. Time is the central theme of=0D=0Aher work—condensed, questioned, and made visible. In addition, she=0D=0Aturns her attention to social structures and contradictions: flight,=0D=0Alost homeland, dignity. Through abstract symbols and works that are=0D=0Aoften fleeting and sensuous, she takes a political stand. In 2016, she=0D=0Areceived the First Art Prize for Emerging Artists in=0D=0AMecklenburg-Vorpommern, and in 2021, the First Upcycling Art Prize at=0D=0Athe Center for Circular Art in Lübz—for an installation made from=0D=0Ashredded advertising brochures that were transformed into colorful=0D=0APersian rugs.=0D=0A=0D=0AIN ADDITION, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ARRANGE A PERSONAL APPOINTMENT BY=0D=0ACALLING THE CELL PHONE NUMBER LISTED ON THE FLYER.=0D=0A=0D=0AIF YOU HAPPEN TO FIND YOURSELF AT THE ALTE WASSERWERK, PLEASE RING THE=0D=0ABELL AT THE MAIN BUILDING.=0D=0A=0D=0ASupported by the State capital Schwerin and the Ministry of Economy,=0D=0ACulture, and Federal Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania=0D=0A
