SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:From Häven all over the world?
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Archaeological Open-Air Museum Groß Raden invites you to the next=0D=0Alecture.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe next exciting lecture at the Groß Raden Archaeological Open-Air=0D=0AMuseum will take place on Wednesday, February 12, at 7.30 pm in the=0D=0Aexhibition building. Dr. Joscha Gretzinger (Max Planck Institute for=0D=0AEvolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig) will report on how some DNA=0D=0Asamples from the imperial princely tombs near Häven=0D=0A(Ludwigslust-Parchim district) have helped to paint a new picture of=0D=0Athe Migration Period.=0D=0ADNA is the blueprint of life; its decoding has contributed=0D=0Asignificantly to our understanding of human evolution. However,=0D=0Aresearch was long limited to the genetic information of organisms=0D=0Aliving today. This has changed with the development of=0D=0Aarchaeogenetics, the science of "ancient DNA". Using the latest=0D=0Abiochemical methods and algorithms, it is now possible to decode DNA=0D=0Afrom long-dead organisms. At the transition between antiquity and the=0D=0AMiddle Ages, the aim is to show how ancient DNA can help to rewrite=0D=0Ahistory: The Migration Period heralded the collapse of the Imperium=0D=0ARomanum through the large-scale immigration of Germanic populations.=0D=0AHowever, although the aftermath of these demographic upheavals=0D=0Acontinues to shape our political and cultural perceptions of Europe=0D=0Atoday, the extent of this migration from northern Europe remains=0D=0Acontroversial. Ancient DNA can help answer these questions and shed=0D=0Alight on how migration 1500 years ago contributed to the diversity in=0D=0AEurope today.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe entrance fee is €7 (reduced €4). Before the lecture, there=0D=0Awill be an opportunity to visit the Gallery of Nature Photographers=0D=0Aand the exhibition "Slavic Castle - In the Footsteps of a Queen" in=0D=0Athe exhibition building.=0D=0A
