SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Tölzer Knabenchor
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:»Dear God – voilà, now this poor little mass is finished. Have I=0D=0Areally composed sacred music, or rather accursed music?«, wrote=0D=0AGioachino Rossini in the score of his »Petite messe solennelle«.=0D=0AToday, it is primarily the arrangement for choir and orchestra that is=0D=0Awell known, but the composer actually had a much smaller ensemble in=0D=0Amind. =0D=0A=0D=0AThe orchestral version, which was written later, took Rossini some=0D=0Aeffort to complete and served one purpose above all: to protect his=0D=0Aoriginally »small« mass with its »few singing voices« from overly=0D=0Apompous arrangements by Adolphe Sax or Hector Berlioz. The first=0D=0Aversion reveals an intimate, multifaceted musical language. This is=0D=0Aalready evident in the choir instrumentation: not only is the vocal=0D=0Aensemble kept small, but the singing voices also consisted of women,=0D=0Amen, and castrati. They are accompanied exclusively by two historical=0D=0Apianos and a harmonium.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe colorful nuances of the score are highlighted by the chamber music=0D=0Aensemble and the special sound of historical instruments. The choir is=0D=0Acarried by the sometimes magnificent orchestral, sometimes delicate,=0D=0Aethereal blend of the two French concert grand pianos from the=0D=0Amid-19th century and the historical harmonium. This homogeneous=0D=0Aoriginal instrumentation allows Rossini’s differentiated dynamic=0D=0Amarkings to be realized not only as volume, but as an expression of=0D=0Ainner movement: as wonder, deep emotion, and humble supplication –=0D=0Aas music of silence.=0D=0A=0D=0AThose who experience this sound hear the Petite messe solennelle as=0D=0ARossini conceived it: not as a pompous, effusive mass composition, or=0D=0Aeven as a dramatic »in church«, but as his very personal, heartfelt=0D=0Athanks for a fulfilled life.=0D=0A=0D=0APERFORMERS=0D=0A=0D=0ATÖLZER KNABENCHOR choir=0D=0A=0D=0ALYDIA TEUSCHER soprano=0D=0A=0D=0ATERRY WEY countertenor=0D=0A=0D=0AACO BIŠĆEVIĆ tenor=0D=0A=0D=0ANIKLAS MALLMANN bass=0D=0A=0D=0ACHRISTOPH HAMMER piano=0D=0A=0D=0ASHENGLONG LI piano=0D=0A=0D=0AJOACHIM DIESSNER harmonium=0D=0A=0D=0ACHRISTIAN FLIEGNER director=0D=0A=0D=0APROGRAM=0D=0A=0D=0AGIOACHINO ROSSINI=0D=0APetite messe solennelle=0D=0A
