SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Reading on the first anniversary of Günther Uecker's death
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event as part of the memorial service on the occasion of the first=0D=0Aanniversary of Günther Uecker's death=0D=0A=0D=0AJune 10, 2026 marks the first anniversary of the death of Günther=0D=0AUecker, whose name the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Library bears.=0D=0ATogether with the Günther Uecker Institute, it invites you to a book=0D=0Apresentation in its foyer from 7 pm on this day. Günther Uecker=0D=0AInstitute scholarship holders Raha Golestani and Konstantin=0D=0ASchönfelder will be presenting their book "Im All der Zeichen. The=0D=0ASemionaut Günther Uecker".=0D=0A=0D=0AIn their interdisciplinary study, Raha Golestani and Konstantin=0D=0ASchönfelder interpret Günther Uecker's working method as a process=0D=0Aof "performative translation", following the French art theorist and=0D=0Acurator Nicolas Bourriaud. According to them, Uecker acts as a=0D=0Amediator between worlds and medialities, which is particularly evident=0D=0Ain his print cycle "Homage to Hafez" (2015). In it, the artist enters=0D=0Ainto an intercultural aesthetic 'encounter' with the poetry of the=0D=0A14th century Persian poet Hafez, quoting and visualizing it. This=0D=0Avisualization is anything but conventional and should be understood as=0D=0Aa performance that can be understood on three levels: linguistic,=0D=0Amedial and cultural. According to Golestani and Schönfelder, in his=0D=0Aperformative practice the artist thus carries out the turn he himself=0D=0Ahas called for against an essentializing codification, which is also=0D=0Abecoming increasingly important in art studies, especially when=0D=0Adealing with 'exotic' symbols and within postcolonial discourses.=0D=0A=0D=0ARaha Golestani (*1993) is a Tehran-born interdisciplinary artist,=0D=0Ascholar and art educator. She lives in Frankfurt am Main. Golestani=0D=0Aholds a BFA in Painting (University of Tehran) and an MA in Aesthetics=0D=0A(Goethe University Frankfurt). She completed her master's degree in=0D=0A2022 with a Goethe Goes Global scholarship on the art of the Persian=0D=0Adiaspora. She is currently researching the entanglements of exoticism=0D=0Aand self-exoticism in contemporary art with a PhD scholarship at=0D=0AGoethe University. Her cultural work includes stints at the Rooberoo=0D=0AMansion Cultural Institute in collaboration with the Goethe Institute=0D=0Ain Tehran, the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics and the=0D=0AFrankfurt School of Painting.=0D=0A=0D=0AKonstantin Schönfelder (*1994) is a freelance writer based in=0D=0AFrankfurt am Main. After studying political science in Leipzig and=0D=0AWashington, D.C., he completed a master's degree in political theory=0D=0Aat Frankfurt's Goethe University.
