SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ZEITREISEN / The wall covering and its reverse side "The lost=0D=0Alandscape room" in dialog with the artist Juliane Laitzsch
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:"The lost landscape room" returns home! An extraordinary find returns=0D=0Ato its place of origin.=0D=0A=0D=0ATHE MIRACLE OF PLÜSCHOW_A lost landscape room returns home_=0D=0A=0D=0AAn extraordinary find returns to its place of origin - and opens up a=0D=0Afascinating dialog between centuries: a large fragment of a baroque=0D=0Awall covering from the 18th century, long hidden and forgotten, has=0D=0Abeen rescued and made accessible to the public.=0D=0A=0D=0AIt is on display for the first time in the exhibition "ZEITREISEN. THE=0D=0AWALL COVERING AND ITS REVERSE - "THE LOST LANDSCAPE ROOM" IN=0D=0ACONVERSATION WITH THE ARTIST JULIANE LAITZSCH , which opens on=0D=0ASATURDAY, MAY 9, 2026, AT 3 PM .=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A"THE LOST LANDSCAPE ROOM"=0D=0A=0D=0AA LAST-MINUTE RESCUE Shortly after 1990, an attentive construction=0D=0Aworker discovered the precious textile under paper wallpaper in a=0D=0Aneighboring building of Plüschow Castle - hidden under the roof,=0D=0Anarrowly escaping the rubble. For over thirty years, his descendants=0D=0Acarefully stored the piece in a garage near Grevesmühlen before=0D=0Ahanding it over to the Förderkreis Schloss Plüschow e.V. in the=0D=0Asummer of 2023. A quiet, persistent form of responsibility towards=0D=0Acultural heritage.=0D=0A=0D=0ARESTORATION, RESEARCH AND MEDIATION went hand in hand in a joint=0D=0Aproject: under the expert guidance of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State=0D=0AOffice for Culture and Monument Preservation (LAKD), the LAKD and the=0D=0AMecklenburgische Künstlerhaus Schloss Plüschow developed a concept=0D=0Athat went far beyond mere preservation. The focus was on the=0D=0Aconservation of the precious find, its future presentation and new=0D=0Aways of communication - especially for children and young people. The=0D=0Aprecious fragment was restored by the conservators Susanne Buch=0D=0A(textile conservation) and Annette Seiffert (painting conservation).=0D=0AThe project was made possible by funding from the Ostdeutsche=0D=0ASparkassenstiftung and Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest as well as the=0D=0Aproject partners' own funds.=0D=0A=0D=0AA WINDOW INTO THE WORLD OF THE 18TH CENTURY The fragment shows a=0D=0Amagnificent fantasy landscape in which elements of Italian, French and=0D=0AGerman painting combine to create a unique pictorial space - lush=0D=0Atrees, exotic plants, figures in bright robes. Such textile wall=0D=0Acoverings once adorned the prestigious rooms of the nobility and bear=0D=0Awitness to a cosmopolitan pictorial world that extends far beyond the=0D=0Aborders of Mecklenburg. As a unique example of Baroque interior=0D=0Adesign, the piece is not only an art-historical document, but also a=0D=0Aliving testimony to the cultural history of our state.=0D=0A=0D=0AHISTORY MEETS THE PRESENT After extensive restoration, the fragment=0D=0Ahas now found its permanent home in the exhibition rooms of the=0D=0AMecklenburg Künstlerhaus Schloss Plüschow - and it is precisely this=0D=0Alocation that makes the find particularly significant. Here, where=0D=0Acontemporary artists work, exhibit and create new visual worlds, the=0D=0Ahistorical work enters into a lively dialog with the art of the=0D=0Apresent. Past and present meet at eye level: the baroque landscape=0D=0Afragment poses questions about our time - about origins, memory and=0D=0Awhat we want to preserve.=0D=0A=0D=0AThis interplay makes Schloss Plüschow a special place of cultural=0D=0Acontinuity: a house where history is not frozen in a museum, but can=0D=0Abe experienced as a living resource - open and inspiring across=0D=0Agenerations.=0D=0A=0D=0AA PIECE OF MECKLENBURG FOR EVERYONE The rediscovered landscape room=0D=0Ainvites visitors to rediscover Mecklenburg's cultural history - not as=0D=0Aa distant past, but as part of an ongoing conversation that we are all=0D=0Ainvolved in.=0D=0A=0D=0ATHANK YOU: We are delighted that this piece of cultural history is=0D=0Abeing preserved for future generations and would like to thank=0D=0Aeveryone who has contributed to this: the restorers Susanne Buch and=0D=0AAnnette Seiffert for their outstanding work; the Ostdeutsche=0D=0ASparkassenstiftung together with Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest and=0D=0Athe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for the Preservation of=0D=0AMonuments for funding the restoration and the accompanying program.=0D=0ASpecial thanks go to the Director of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State=0D=0AOffice for Culture and Monument Preservation, Dr. Dornbusch, and Ms.=0D=0AFriederike Funke for their expert guidance - and last but not least to=0D=0Athe finder and his family for returning a valuable piece of=0D=0AMecklenburg history.=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AJULIANE LAITZSCH=0D=0A=0D=0A"TIME TRAVEL. THE TEXTILE WALL COVERING AND ITS REVERSE SIDE"=0D=0A=0D=0AIn her artistic work, the draughtswoman Juliane Laitzsch makes direct=0D=0Areference to the valuable wall covering. She draws attention to its=0D=0Areverse side. Here we find the traces of an eventful history. With her=0D=0Adrawing, Juliane Laitzsch explores the references to this history. She=0D=0Azooms into the wallpaper remnants, nail holes and discolorations and=0D=0Aremains fragmentary.=0D=0A=0D=0AAlso on display are drawings from the series "Infinity in small=0D=0Ascraps". Juliane Laitzsch's work invites you to travel back in time.=0D=0AShe always has an eye on new beginnings and moving on. Her meticulous,=0D=0Ameditative drawings show beauty and loss in equal measure.=0D=0A=0D=0A_Juliane Laitzsch studied fine art in Bremen and Berlin. Her work=0D=0Adeals with the connections between past, present and future. She is=0D=0Ainterested in shifts, cracks and fractures and our strange=0D=0Adisconnectedness with the world. Her work has been widely exhibited=0D=0Aand promoted. The University of Art in Linz awarded her a doctorate=0D=0Afor her work "Late Antique Textiles - Experiments of Approach".
