Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies,=0D=0AFriends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!=0D=0A=0D=0AEvent=0D=0A=0D=0AThe GEW Hamburg invites you to a reading and a discussion with Lutz=0D=0Avan Dijk: Lutz van Dijk talks about his coming out as a young teacher=0D=0Aat the time and reads from his book The Wide World (Querverlag 2026).=0D=0A=0D=0AThe author and educator Lutz van Dijk reads from his newly published=0D=0Aautobiographical book, "The Wide World – New York to Cape Town." In=0D=0Ait, he recounts formative stages of his life, first at age 18 in New=0D=0AYork, then from 1975 as a student and teacher in Hamburg, later as a=0D=0Ajournalist in Jerusalem, as an employee of the Anne Frank House in=0D=0AAmsterdam, and now, for almost 25 years, at age 70, in Cape Town.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe evening will focus on memories of his time as the youngest teacher=0D=0Aat a special needs school in Hamburg-Billstedt, and his involvement in=0D=0Athe emerging gay rights movement, from the HAH (Homosexual Action=0D=0AHamburg) to the founding of the MHC (Magnis-Hirschfeld Center). Terms=0D=0Alike "queer" or "rainbow family" as we understand them today did not=0D=0Ayet exist.=0D=0A=0D=0AFollowing a welcome address by GEW chairman Sven Quierng, Lutz van=0D=0ADijk will give a presentation and read from his work.
