A mini-forest the size of four parking spaces? It's possible! People around the world are planting small, species-rich wooded islands to green their regions, cool cities, and contribute to climate protection.

Hamburg already has several of these mini-forests, also called Tiny Forests, and plans are to add more. The non-profit organization Citizens Forests e.V. has been organizing planting campaigns with volunteers since 2019, basing its work on the decades-established method of the Japanese plant sociologist Akira Miyawaki.

The exhibition shows how a mini-forest is created from native trees and shrubs, what makes it special, and how you can get involved yourself. Meet the Citizens Forests members at their information booth and ask your questions. The supporting program includes a mini-forest consultation hour every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and an activity day on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with a guided tour, workshops, a documentary film , crafts for children , and a children's reading.
